Run #448

Farquhar Beach (Milk River, Clarendon)

Sunday, 2 Aug, 2015

Start Time:
Bulbie, Nadine, Carla
ALTHOUGH BLESSED with an untouched landscape, including a black sand beach, Farquhar's Beach in Clarendon has remained mostly hidden from the world...' No-one is quite sure when the first Farquhars came to Jamaica. As Hashers know, Columbus stumbled on Jamaica in 1494 while on his way to India (FALSE TRAIL!). But notwithstanding that messup, he wasn't a Farquhar and as he was in charge of the ship, crew members dared not call him that! According to records, a few Farquhars came to Jamaica prior to 1800. Among their involvements was the Castle Wemyss Sugar Estate in Trelawny. Gilbert got married to Catherine Farquhar in 1802. These were true Farquhars and as a result they soon had a son - a precocious little Farquhar! Shortly after, it is said, the child's father suddenly left to live with another woman in another parish and one is not quite sure what happened to the motherFarquhar. With regard to the son, one rumour is that he - while still quite young - for some reason changed his name and moved to Clarendon. It's also not clear what eventually became of that wayward little Farquhar. This river is complimented by Crocs as permanent tenants. No swimming here. Only the fishermen go swimming with them. They are friends. You can go fishing. The location for the Hash is Farquhar Beach which is a black sand beach. *Yes you can swim here it is safe with friendly locals. *Yes toilet facilities.

How We Got There:
Hit Highway 2000 from Kingston heading for May Pen going through Tol 1 and 2. At the end of the highway turn left going over the big bridge. (Bypassing the right turn for May Pen.) Continue along and pick up the sign for Milk River and Spa which is a left turn followed by a right turn. From here just follow the sign for Milk River Hotel and Spa. (This is hot open country.) When you get to the Hotel which is on the right, Continue on this road which leads to dirt road which you will follow straight to the location. From the Hotel you will see a river on the left.
