How We Got There:

This Hash took place at THE Dallas Castle, which borders on the village of Dallas Castle in St. Andrew. It will be less than 45 minutes? drive from Liguanea. Take it easy? road is narrow and bumpy in some places but no problem for cars. Come and get a history lesson, discover the ruins of the Aqueduct, the Factory, the Castle as well as the beautifully renovated sections! A river flows through the property and there is also a natural pool nearby where you may be able to take a dip! From Liguanea, head up Old Hope Road to UTECH (Papine) Turn RIGHT and continue past the University Hospital and the United Theological College Turn LEFT and continue down (to Elletson Flats) and then make a right. Go past the School of Hope and the Hope Institute and continue on down. At the intersection (?Digicel Shop?), turn RIGHT, go over the bridge and continue up the hill (passing through Halls Delight) to Lindo?s Gap intersection At Lindo?s Gap, turn RIGHT and continue (downhill) until the next intersection Then turn RIGHT and continue until you come to a residential gateway with a solid black gate on the left. (about a minute?s drive from the intersection) (NB. If you miss this last right turn, you will end up in the Dallas Castle community and have gone the wrong way! Turn around!) You have arrived? Turn in the gate and find somewhere to park on the lovely grounds of Dallas Castle Estate! [ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: It is also possible to get to Dallas Castle via Harbour View and Bull Bay: From Bull Bay, turn off at ?9 miles? near the Bull Bay Police Station and head towards Cane River Falls. After about 12 minutes you get to Cane River Falls and then after another 12 minutes you will arrive in Dallas Castle. Look out for the walled compound of Dallas Castle as well as the name ?Dallas Castle? on the gateposts.]

Full disclosure: Letters Patent for Dallas Castle Estate were granted in 1681 when Sir Henry Morgan was Governor of Jamaica. Dallas Castle was so named after the illustrious Dallas family that owned the property at the time. It was the birthplace to Alexander James Dallas in the early 1700s, who later became U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and whose sons, George Mifflin Dallas and Alexander Dallas, went on to become a vice-president of the U.S., and navy commodore. There are historical references to indicate that the City of Dallas, Texas, was so named in honour of George Mifflin Dallas.
