About:

"Sugar Pot Ruins Beach" is a private sandy beach, located in Rio Nuevo, St. Mary (half-way between Boscobel and Ocho Rios). Usually there is an admission fee of J$200, but the owner waives it for the Hashers. This is your chance to see one of Jamaica's most beautiful hidden beaches for free! You'll reach Rio Nuevo either via Junction Road + Port Maria or via Spanish Town + Ocho Rios. It's about a 2-hours drive from Kingston both ways. This is an ideal location for a weekend retreat; many affordable guest-houses in the area (Marion's is only a 15 min drive away!)

How We Got There:

Sugar Pot Ruins Beach is a private sandy beach, located in Rio Nuevo, St. Mary (half-way between Boscobel and Ocho Rios). You'll reach Rio Nuevo either via Junction Road + Port Maria or via Spanish Town + Ocho Rios. It's about a 2-hours drive from Kingston both ways. This is an ideal location for a weekend retreat; many affordable guest-houses in the area (Marion's is only a 15 min drive away!) From Junction Road: Pass through Port Maria, Oracabessa and Boscobel. 5km after Boscobel Airport the Northcoast Highway descends to the Rio Nuevo valley. At the bottom there is a Gas Station called 'Cool Oasis' (big sign) on the right side. Turn right here, passing through the gas station. **Turn immediately right again (at 'Wonderland Wholesale') into a dirt road. Follow this road to the beach (about 1.5km), crossing an old iron bridge and passing 'Rio Nuevo Village Resort' on your left. At the beach turn right, follow the shoreline for ca. 1km, passing the Rio Nuevo Fishing Coop. on the right. At the end of the dirt road there is a gate with a big sign 'Sugar Pot Ruins Beach'. Drive inside and park on the property. You've reached your destination. From Ocho Rios: Head East on the Northcoast Highway, passing through Tower Isle. 6km after the last traffic light in Ocho Rios (Texaco Gas Station on the right) you'll pass the 'Rio Nuevo Battle Side' on your left, followed by a sign 'Rio Nuevo Village ? 0.5km'. At the bottom of the Rio Nuevo valley there is a Gas Station called 'Cool Oasis' (big sign) on the left side. Turn left here, passing through the gas station. From there follow the **- instructions above.
